Ingredients
- 450g tofu
- 2TBSP cornstarch
- 2TBSP oil
- 4TBSP soy sauce
- 3/4TBSP siracha or (other hot sauce or 1tsp chilli flakes)
- 2TBSP water
- 1tsp garlic granuals
- 1tsp paprika
- 2tsp sugar
- few cracks of black pepper
Garnish:
- seseme seeds
- fresh coriander
Method
- tear the tofu into bite-size chuncks in a large mixing bowl and add cornstarch. mix with hands until well coated. heat a large frying pan on high heat.
- add the oil and then after a few seconds add the tofu to the very hot frying pan (almost smoking hot – be careful). flipping once to cover in oil. DO NOT turn too often because we want a good sear on each side.
- put together the sauce by mixing all the ingredents in a mixing bowl
- turn 1 of the large pieces on tofu to check if it’s cooked enough (if not, turn back over and continue cooking.
- once cooked, flip the pan and turn the rest of the pieces over with a spatular. about 6-8 mins each side (DO NOT use metal on a non-stick pan)
- when cooked on both sides 14-18 mins total depending on heat – add the sauce.
- turning every 1-2 mins – cook for a futher 5 mins or more. be careful not to burn the longer you cook it.
- transfer to bowl and garnish with seaseme seeds and fresh coriander! enjoy!
